Tayport

Area Guide For Tayport

Tayport, otherwise called Ship Port on Craig, is a town and burgh in the district of Fife, Scotland. The adage of the Burgh is Te oportet alte ferri ("It is officeholder on you to conduct yourself high"), a fairly horrendous play on words on Tayport at auld Tay Ship. Tayport lies near to the north east tip of Fife. To the north it looks over the Waterway Tay to Broughty Ship and Broughty Manor. To the east is the limitless Tentsmuir Nature Save, a range of forested rises measuring practically 3 km from east to west and 6 km from north to south and edged by wide sands that proceed with the distance round to the mouth of the Waterway Eden. The settlement was initially called Partan Craig, Gaelic for "Crab Rock". Over the accompanying two hundred years English utilization dissolved numerous Gaelic spot names in eastern Scotland and Partan Craig had gotten to be referred to as Portincragge by 1415 and as Port-in-Craige before the end of the fifteenth century. In 1598 the settlement got its burgh contract for the sake of Ship Port on Craig.
